The Green Hour

The Green Hour is our community outreach initiative aimed at cultivating a deep appreciation for local biodiversity among schoolchildren. Through engaging activities and hands-on learning, we encourage children to explore and connect with the natural world. As the saying goes, "We cannot protect what we don't know." Our team of volunteers and experts help children understand the value of biodiversity and hope to inspire them to become its future protectors. Read more about our recent activities in our blog.

Pehli Class

Pehli Class is our community outreach initiative dedicated to raising awareness and sharing knowledge about local biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, climate change, and environmental conservation. Through in-depth blog posts, we dive into various topics, offering insights and practical solutions. You can find some of our posts on our blog. In addition to our online resources, we actively engage with local communities by organizing small events in villages, often in collaboration with youth clubs and women's groups. These events serve as platforms to discuss pressing issues like climate change, the harmful effects of chemical agriculture, and simple, actionable solutions that can be adopted at the grassroots level.

We believe in the power of community feedback, which is why we actively listen to the concerns and ideas of those we engage with. Their invaluable input shapes our policy recommendations, ensuring they reflect the real needs of the community.

Project Tenfa

The term "Tenfa" in the Kinnauri dialect refers to the cherished tradition of gifting food and medicinal plants to loved ones. In collaboration with Zed.tells, Project Tenfa, is an initiative focused on documenting the traditional knowledge surrounding food and native plants of Kinnaur, while also exploring the scientific understanding behind these practices. As biodiversity loss is strongly correlated with the loss of cultural diversity and traditional knowledge, Project Tenfa aims to safeguard this knowledge before its too late. Click for details.

#SpeciesSunday

#SpeciesSunday is our community engagement initiative designed to raise awareness about the rich plant biodiversity native to the Western Himalayas. Every Sunday, we share short, engaging posts on Instagram and Facebook featuring a different plant species, highlighting its unique characteristics and importance. These posts are carefully chosen to reflect the species that are most prominent at that time of year, making each post timely and educational. In addition to our Instagram shorts, we share long form posts on our LinkedIn profile, diving deeper into the species’ ecology, uses, and significance. On Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms, we encourage community participation by opening up the comments section for followers to share their own knowledge, experiences, and insights about the featured species, creating a collaborative learning space.

Launched in 2025, #SpeciesSunday is just the beginning of our efforts to build interactive online tools for environmental education. With each passing year, we aim to expand our digital outreach, offering new ways for people to connect with and appreciate the natural world around them.
